The elegant Grand Bohemian Hotel is known for its electrifying ambiance and is a popular escape for locals enjoying a stylish staycation and selective tourists visiting Orlando. Cultivated and clever Foodies know to expect the best while dining at The Boheme, the hotel’s AAA Four Diamond restaurant.

The Boheme Formal Dining Room

Recently, I had the pleasure of experiencing The Boheme’s exceptional Black Bee Honey Cheesecake, which is not only rich, fragrant, and scrumptious but also has an incredible story of empowerment that starts with the Parramore Kidz Zone.

Black Bee Honey Cheesecake – to go

Started in 2006 by Mayor Buddy Dyer, the Parramore Kidz Zone (PKZ) provides a plethora of programs, such as mentoring and after-school programs for children of the historically impoverished west-central Orlando neighborhood, Parramore. One of the many successful initiatives born from PKZ is the non-profit Black Bee Honey, founded in 2017. The primary mission is to provide the community with access to this superior and delicious sugar substitute, as well as teach the youth business acumen and the trade of the apiarist, or beekeeper.

Team Members of the Black Bee Honey Initiative

For years, The Boheme has supported and championed Black Bee Honey using the raw honey for the signature honey cheesecake. Additionally, the Grand Bohemian donates a dollar from each purchase of their honey cheesecake back to the Black Bee Honey.

Black Bee Honey Cheescake as served for dine-in

Black Bee Honey Cheesecake ($11), is delectable and creamy with defined orange blossom honey notes coming through. The Grand Marnier caramel sauce poured atop makes it even more special and deepens the flavors, while the honeycomb waffle crisp crowns it. Spectacular.

Executive Chef Laurent Hollaender

Executive Chef Laurent Hollaender has been impressing us with his extreme level of excellence, creativity, and refined taste since 2012, when he joined the Grand Bohemian. Equally impressive was his level of enthusiasm and involvement with the young group of teenagers from the Black Bee Honey team. It was lovely to see him explaining the process of preparing escargot as they tried it for the first time. An experience I’m sure they will never forget!

Knowing the hard work and importance of producing Black Bee Honey – from the bees to the teenagers to chefs at The Boheme – this cheesecake is special and you can taste the love with every spoonful. Next time you are craving a delightful dessert AND want to contribute to a great cause, please go to The Boheme and order the Black Bee Honey Cheesecake. You will love every bite!
