The Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, initially known as the Tangerine Bowl since 1947, is the seventh-oldest collegiate bowl game, with its first expenses funded by $100 contributions from each member of Orlando’s Elks Lodge #1079.
Since 1993, it has featured top teams from the Big Ten and Southeastern conferences. In the College Football Playoff era, it continues to host these conferences’ leading teams not selected for the main CFP bowls. The game has been a New Year’s Day event since 1987, except when New Year’s falls on a Sunday.
