I visited Amura Sushi a while ago. Maybe I had too high of expectations, maybe I was hoping to find that one perfect place to go for some delicious, melt in your mouth, freshly cut, savory sushi at Amura. Alas, my hopes were too high and my visit to Amura proved to be quite ordinary.
I have a problem with places that charge too much for too little. That’s how I felt when I ordered the Rolls Royce, and all I got was rice with a sliver of shrimp in the middle drizzled with sweet sauce and topped with masago. I know it looks pretty but pretty is not going to fill my tummy. The Crystal Bubble roll that I got reminded me of a Vietnamese spring roll wrapped in rice paper. Maybe I ordered the wrong rolls this time around, but overall I was quite underwhelmed with my experience at Amura.
Amura was just okay.
Mediocre sushi at extremely high prices. Better to drive up Dr. Phillips Blvd. to Samurai for excellent sushi at reasonable prices.
I've found that one Amura is not the same as the other Amura. The Volcano Roll at the downtown Amura is heavenly. But the "same" roll at this locatio (Sand Lake) is nothing but heaven. Very average roll for the same if not higher price than their Church Street location. They've got a consistency problem.
s + amura + i = sAMURAi
I guess there already was a Samurai Sushi when Amura opened so they dropped some letters.
Just
ate there today and had one of the worst experiences with one of my friends. I
am a pretty simple guy, serve me great or at least good food at a reasonable
cost. Well, let’s just say I will not be going back to Amura anytime in the
near lifetime. First, I ordered their crispy crunchy chicken bento box – Rice
Burned, Chicken over cooked and soaked in grease and sushi rolls (warm and dry)
– which means that they are not keeping safe temperatures on their food. (Hint
Hint – Health Inspectors). I politely asked for a manager and the manager
promptly came buy, showed him the issued and quickly reordered another fresh
dish of my choice. After another long waiting period (forgot to mention lunch
took almost 45 minutes to come out), the manager brought out my second choice,
chicken cashew bento box. After trying to woof down the food I noted the
texture of the chicken wasn’t right – upon my surprise – RAW CHICKEN!!! If I
were Gordon Ramsey – I would be saying get out. I again flagged down the same
manager – now unhappily told him that I don’t eat raw chicken. Now, expecting
the check to be taken care of because my friend shared some of their food with
me because they felt bad eating alone…again shocker I was presented a check.
So I quickly approached the manager privately and asked for the check to be
taken care of…not a horrible request. They ruined a perfectly good lunch hour
– is it that bad? Obviously it was, because the manager proceeded to THREATEN
me by contacting my corporate VP and because I was asking for the check to be
taken care of??? Then he proceeded to ask me my name and location to where I
worked so he could specifically call me out. That is when I told him that I
thought his behavior was inappropriate and that he shouldn’t be threaten me and
my job because of his restaurants lack of service by serving raw chicken and
burned rice! Sorry but I had to vent because that behavior is inexcusable in my
book.
In short, I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone that I know.In short, I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone that I know.
