Ok, so Sunrail is set to launch this Thursday, May 1st – a commuter train running through Central Florida from DeBary to the north to Sand Lake Road to the south, mostly from 6am-8pm hours during the weekday with free wifi, power outlets for charging laptops and phones, etc. so you can get your work on while going to work.

SunRail trains will arrive at each station every 30 minutes during peak service times when traffic on the roads is typically at its worst. During non-peak periods, trains will operate every 2 hours. Initially, there will be no service on the weekends. They hope to expand the network and hours in the future depending on demand.

It costs $2 to get on and an extra $1 for every time you cross a county line, but the first two weeks in May, it’s free to ride.

While coming up with this list of local Orlando restaurants (no chains), I realized that many of the stations would require some other form of transportation such as biking or bus from the station to reach the foodie destination.

The only two stops which appears to have the easiest access to foodie destinations by foot would be the Winter Park and Church Street Station stops. Hopefully, the other stations will be able to provide better modes of transportation for the “last mile.”

It’s also important to note: no food is allowed on the trains, so finish your meals before boarding, at least for now.
