The Generous Pour is a summer wine event happening at participating Capital Grille Restaurants. As you dine you will have the opportunity to experience a collection of California and Oregon wines each rated 90 points or higher by some of the most respected wine reviewers in the world.

The have a selections of 3 white whites and 4 red wines for you to work your way around or continue with the one that fancies you the most. The Generous Pour is ongoing now until September 3rd.

I began the meal with some Fresh Oysters on the Shell (6) Served on ice with mignonette sauce. I found this best paired with the Matanzas Creek Winery, Sonoma, 2016 (Sauvignon Blanc | 92 points )with it’s brightness and acidity.

We also went with the crowd’s favorite Pan-Fried Calamari with Hot Cherry Peppers (16).  A portion that’s definitely meant to be shared.

Our mains included their signature steak, Porcini Rubbed Bone-In Ribeye (54) prepared with delicate porcini mushroom crust and 15 year aged balsamic.  I enjoyed this most with our server’s favorite red Mt. Brave, Mt.Veeder, Napa Valley, 2012 (Cabernet Sauvignon | 92 points)

My next dish was- dare I say- The best cut of steak I’ve yet experienced. This is not quite on the regular Capital Grille’s menu the Bone-In Filet Mignon (MP) was a beautiful and seared to a delicate textured. I enjoyed this most with the Siduri, Willamette Valley, 2016 (Pinot Noir | 91 points)  it had mellow notes that were easy to enjoy without overpowering the steak.

Our spread was incredibly delicious with the Lobster Mac’n Cheese (18) and Soy Glazed Brussel Sprouts with Bacon (12).

We have always enjoyed our experience with Capital Grille At The Millenia Location.  I would definitely go and check out the Generous Pour event before it ends on September 3rd!

The first Capital Grille was founded in Providence, Rhode Island in 1990 and quickly became a staple in the city’s up and coming downtown section. Businessmen were the driving force behind the restaurant’s original popularity, but it has since grown into a celebratory destination for all occasions – from holidays and birthdays to anniversaries and more.

That is true here too in Orlando, with the first Capital Grille opening in the Orange County Convention Area on International Drive and now with a second more modern and updated location at the Mall at Millenia. I’ve always been a big fan – from their great service to excellent quality steaks and ambiance – it’s great for any special occasion, and with the new bar menu, good even for those just stopping by on the way home from work or while shopping at the mall.

The Stoli Doli is the Capital Grille’s signature cocktail, and it is so popular that they pour enough each year to serve the country of Iceland for an entire evening. It’s made with made with Stolichnaya Vodka infused with fresh pineapple, chilled and served straight up.

This holiday season, the Capital Grille is offering several special items to go along with purchases of gift cards. In celebration of this announcement, we have partnered up with The Capital Grille to do a gift card giveaway worth $150. To enter read below:

I was honored to attend Chef’s Night hosted by Second Harvest Food Bank featuring Chef Michael LaDuke of The Capital Grille on Wednesday, October 26.

dsc_8515

Chef Michael LaDuke, vice president and corporate executive  for The Capital Grille, prepared dinner as part of the “Year of the Steak” Chef’s Night Series.

dsc_8495

At this event, guests were greeted with wonderful music as they enjoyed cocktails and amuse bouche.

dsc_8496

Gorgonzola Topped Figs with Ruby Port Syrup – very buttery with a slight salty taste and crumbly texture.

dsc_8500

Pan Seared Filet “Carpaccio” with Charred Shallot Aioli – tasteful with a garlic and mayonnaise undertone.

dsc_8518

Tower of Jumbo Shrimp and King Crab with Stone Ground Mustard Mayo and a House-Made Cocktail – every bit is fresh and delicious, especially the King Crab that has a sweetness to it that makes it great.

dsc_8531

Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Spinach Salad with Toasted Pecans and Warm Honey Bacon Vinaigrette – the vinaigrette is light and sweet that goes well with the salad. However, the croutons were slightly soggy.

dsc_8533

30-Day Dry-Aged Sirloin with Rosti Potatoes, Asparagus Sauté and Mushroom Glace – the best sirloin I have ever had; it was the most tender piece of sirloin. The rosti potatoes were a tad dense and not my favorite. The asparagus sauté and mushroom glace was nice and added a little flavor to the sirloin if desired. I liked the sirloin with or without the asparagus sauté and mushroom place.

dsc_8538

The Capital Grille Signature Cheesecake with Spiked Cranberry Compote – heavenly delicious! I loved the cheesecake and I wish I had more. The spiked cranberry compote is nice and tart that adds a fruity touch to the cheesecake.

Beginning today through November 22, guests dining in The Capital Grille’s lounge at both the Millenia Mall and International Drive locations here in Orlando can choose from two different styles of Wagyu burgers, accompanied by their choice of a glass of two exceptional wines for $25.

These wines include a Justin Isosceles Cabernet Sauvignon and a Landmark Overlook Pinot Noir and are typically reserved for bottle purchases only.

SONY DSC

These pairings were hand-selected by George Miliotes, The Capital Grille’s Master Sommelier and one of only 230 wine professionals in the world to have earned this prestigious title.

“Wagyu beef is often referred to as ‘butter knife beef’ because it is arguably the most tender beef on earth,” said The Capital Grille’s Executive Chef Michael LaDuke. “With Wagyu & Wine, we are putting our own twist on the comfort of a burger guests love, further enhanced with premium ingredients and flawless preparation.”

SONY DSC

“Wagyu & Wine is also a wonderful opportunity for guests to enjoy one of two exceptional wine pairings with a gourmet burger,” added George Miliotes, The Capital Grille’s Master Sommelier and one of only 230 wine professionals in the world to have earned that prestigious title.

The Capital Grille’s pairings were hand-selected by Miliotes, who takes great pride in coupling world-class wines with fantastic dishes.

SONY DSC

“When selecting a wine to pair with our Gorgonzola and Black Truffle Wagyu Burger, we factored in the need for powerful tannins to offset the richness of the meat, which is how we came to choose the 2012 Justin Isosceles Cabernet Sauvignon,” Miliotes explained.

“As for our Wagyu Cheeseburger with Fried Egg, it made perfect sense to match the texture of the egg yolk to the silky smooth 2013 Landmark Overlook Pinot Noir.”

The Generous Pour event at The Capital Grille is one of my favorite events of the year, particularly for wine lovers.

From July 6 through August 30, 2015, for $28 per person with dinner, The Capital Grille offers eight remarkable wines crafted, designed or owned by women from some of California’s most acclaimed vineyards. Guests are invited to explore and enjoy as many of these remarkable wines and varietals as they like.

During the last week of August – the event coincides with Magical Dining Month – so you could get a three course meal for $30, and add the all you can drink generous pour option for another $28.

The Capital Grille this year announced that seven of California’s great female winemakers and collaborators, including award-winning actress Drew Barrymore, came together to celebrate women and wine as part of the restaurant’s seventh annual The Generous Pour event.

Nowhere is the rise of women in the industry more prevalent than in California. Women represent half of the graduates from the state’s top enology programs, and are employed as lead winemaker at ten percent of California vineyards.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“The Generous Pour collection is a celebration of the vital role women play in the growing wine industry,” noted George Miliotes, The Capital Grille’s Master Sommelier and one of only 229 in the world to have earned that prestigious title. “We are proud to feature eight exceptional wines created and shaped by seven extremely talented women, from highly-regarded California wineries,” he added.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Their wines were also selected with a storied vintage in mind including the national debut of Drew Barrymore’s Pinot Grigio, a delightful, crowd-pleasing white to share with friends and family.

Also to be featured is the first public release of the remarkable 2007 Kinton Syrah, exclusive to The Capital Grille for The Generous Pour event.

“The winemakers at Kinton produced an incredible Syrah in 2007, a storybook vintage in the state,” said Miliotes. “One of the more notable wines in this year’s The Generous Pour line-up, nowhere will you taste the perfection of the 2007 vintage more than in a glass of this smooth Santa Barbara red.”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The 2015 Generous Pour Collection includes eight remarkable wines by seven talented women:

The Enthusiast. Drew Barrymore delights in a wine’s ability to bring people together. It is that passion which inspired the actress to establish Barrymore Wines in the coastal winegrowing region of Monterey, California. The debut of Barrymore Pinot Grigio can be enjoyed at this year’s Generous Pour and is the perfect way to begin your evening.

The Visionary. Julia Jackson, the youngest daughter of legendary winemaker Jess Jackson, is the visionary leading the Jackson Family Estates into the future. Having grown up in the vineyards of Santa Barbara, she has literally spent a lifetime learning about the art of wine and hand selected the wine from the Jackson family library to featuring exclusively at The Capital Grille for the Generous Pour event this year.

The Gardener. Marcia Monahan has always had a close relationship with the land. When not planting grapes at Matanzas Creek, she’s growing vegetables and herbs at home. Her respect for the land and sustainable farming practices makes her masterfully crafted Matanzas Creek Merlot one of the finest in the country.

The Spaniard. Laura Diaz Muñoz began her winemaking career in her native Spain before putting down roots in California, where her approach is influenced by her memories drinking Albariño in her native Spain and smelling the sea in every glass. Two of the wines featured in this year’s Generous Pour – Mt. Brave Cabernet Sauvignon and the debut of her own Galerie “Naissance” Sauvignon Blanc – are sure to earn rave reviews from The Capital Grille’s guests.

The Conductor. Denise Shurtleff and her team direct every aspect of the winemaking process. From nurturing the grapes on the vine to bottling their exceptional wines, one tastes her dedication in every sip of Cambria “Julia’s Vineyard” Pinot Noir.

The Virtuoso. Lisa Valtenbergs, born with an acute sense of smell and armed with a degree in agricultural business with an emphasis in viticulture, was destined to become a winemaker. At Stonestreet, Lisa uses her skill to create remarkable wines, including the highly acclaimed “Bear Point” Chardonnay.

The Scholar. Kristina Werner has a master’s degree in viticulture and experience making wine in regions around the world. She brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to every wine she crafts and lives by the mantra, “Never stop learning and never get bored.” Her Bordeaux-style Arrowood Cabernet Reserve Speciale is one of a kind.

During The Generous Pour, The Capital Grille servers will provide tasting notes and suggest pairings for each course, based on individual preferences. This will allow guests to craft their own personalized wine dinner.

1. THE CAPITAL GRILLE CELEBRATES FEMALE WINEMAKERS WITH SEVENTH ANNUAL GENEROUS POUR WINE EVENT

The Generous Pour Offers Eight Remarkable Wines from Seven Talented Women

Orlando, Fla. – July 6, 2015 – The Capital Grille today announced that seven of California’s great female winemakers and collaborators, including award-winning actress Drew Barrymore, will come together to celebrate women and wine as part of the restaurant’s seventh annual The Generous Pour event.

Generous Pour

The Generous Pour will celebrate the unique role women play in winemaking with this year’s offerings. From July 6 through August 30, 2015, for $28 per person with dinner[1], The Capital Grille will offer eight remarkable wines crafted, designed or owned by women from some of California’s most acclaimed vineyards. Nearly one-third of U.S. adults who order wine in restaurants report that they are more likely to order a certain wine in a restaurant if they find its origins interesting. With this in mind, The Capital Grille brought together these seven distinguished women, each representing a distinct approach to winemaking.

Their wines were also selected with a storied vintage in mind including the national debut of Drew Barrymore’s Pinot Grigio, a delightful, crowd-pleasing white to share with friends and family.

Wagyu Cheeseburger with Fried Egg and Crisp Onions

The Capital Grille, known for dry-aged steaks and award-winning wine list announces the introduction of new burger offerings for lunch.

The Capital Grille will be adding three new burgers to the lunch menu.

The new burgers, all wonderfully juicy and made with premium Wagyu beef, will be featured on the lunch menu along with The Grille’s Signature Cheeseburger, the Wagyu Cheeseburger with Fried Egg and Crisp Onions and Lobster and Crab Burger with House Tartar Sauce.

The new burger options, include:
-Kona Crusted Wagyu Burger with Shallot Mayo ($17)
-Wild Mushroom Wagyu Cheeseburger with 15-year Aged Balsamic ($18)
-Oscar-style Wagyu Burger with Jumbo Lump Crab and Bearnaise ($19)

All of the burgers will be served with a side of Parmesan Truffle Fries.

The menu is only available at the Millenia mall location for now, the newest Capital Grille in our area. The interior design here is much more modern and casual, rather than the usual club feel from other Capital Grilles, owing to the casual nature of mall shoppers and appealing to the younger crowd – hence the very prominent bar area and open air seating.

Happy National Burger Month, yall!

Back by popular demand, the Summer “Plates” menu at The Capital Grille on International Drive marks the return of the Wagyu Cheeseburger with Fried Egg and Crisp Onions – served on a buttery Brioche bun that pulls the egg, onion, cheese and Wagyu together for a truly delicious burger experience.  Another notable lunch entrée is a brand new dish, full of rich and appealing flavors – Seared Sea Scallops with Sweet and Sour Tomatoes.

New Summer “Plates” menu side items also include Carrot Ginger Soup and Tomato and Watermelon Salad with Feta Cheese.  Guests can customize their lunch, choosing now from ten “Plates” offerings – soup or salad, lunch entrée and a side – all for $18.

“The new Summer “Plates” lunch menu was designed to bring back some of our guests’ favorite items and introduce other, new selections for the season,” notes Executive Chef Matthew Price.

“Carrots contain plenty of natural sugars in the beginning of the season.  Combining them with ginger in our new Carrot Ginger Soup creates a depth of flavor and vibrant color, well-suited for summer.  We are also pleased to offer a new luxury addition to our menu, the Seared Sea Scallops with Sweet and Sour Tomatoes, served with a unique Israeli cous cous.”

The Most Highly Anticipated Wine Experience of the Summer
Returns to The Capital Grille
The Generous Pour Wine Event to Launch July 9

Orlando, FL ( June 26, 2012) – Imagine having the freedom to enjoy nine world-class and limited-vintage varietals, hand-selected by a Master Sommelier, all while savoring signature appetizers, dry-aged steaks, fresh seafood and house-made desserts. Make that dream a reality by unleashing your inner sommelier this summer for The Generous Pour Wine Event – just $25 per person at dinner from July 9 to September 2.

The Generous Pour Wine Event offers guests an unparalleled opportunity to enjoy generous pours of as many of the featured wines as they choose and the event exemplifies the expert, personalized service that The Capital Grille is known for. Guests will be guided through the experience, with suggested pairings and wine tasting notes for each course ordered.

Each wine was chosen from unique vineyards around the world by The Capital Grille’s Master Sommelier, George Miliotes, one of only 186 in the world. “I selected the wines for the Generous Pour Wine Event, relying on favorites from unique vineyards that I enjoy in my own personal cellar.” Allowing guests to experience the wine paired with food, tasting notes and expert guidance from our servers, adds depth to the experience that a traditional tasting event would not provide. The best way to learn about wine is to drink it!”

The Generous Pour Wine Event introduces guests to some of the season’s newest wine trends, while also offering hard-to-find varietals and known favorites. Highlights from this summer’s signature collection of choice whites and reds are:

· Conn Creek Anthology, Cabernet, 2007 – The finest vintage of the last 50 years for Cabernet in Napa, this robust blend of Bordeaux grapes from 13 of the region’s top vineyards is Conn Creek’s crowning jewel. A rich and creamy wine to complement dry aged steak.

· Ferrari-Carano Mountain Reserve, Cabernet, 2008 – The Capital Grille is proud to be hosting the exclusive debut of Mountain Reserve from Ferrari-Carano. With a mixture of aromas and a long, dry finish, this bold Alexander Valley Cabernet is the perfect accompaniment for Kona Crusted Dry Age Sirloin.

· Sim?i?, Rebula, 2008/09 – Available exclusively at The Capital Grille, this wine, also known as “Orange Wine,” is a 1,000 year-old style of wine production making a comeback. Highly aromatic, it is an ideal companion for appetizers and light fish dishes.

· Villa Mt. Eden Grand Reserve, Pinot Noir, 2007 – One of Master Sommelier George Miliotes personal favorites, this silky and smooth wine, boasting flavors of strawberry, cherry, and toffee, pairs beautifully with Cedar Planked Salmon with Tomato Fennel Relish.

The Capital Grille is one of my favorite high-end restaurants in Orlando, it’s a place where I can go where I know the service and the food will all be top notch, a testament to managing partner Randy Cook and executive chef Matthew Price’s dedication to excellence. I’ve never been disappointed there.

The interior is a bit clubby, you could imagine executives or politicians, people with power and money dining here, probably on the corporate account card for their visit to the nearby Orlando Convention center. They are probably most known for their excellent steaks and a wine selection hand picked by Master Sommelier and Orlando local George Miliotes.

Luckily there is a menu during lunch that is pretty affordable for locals.

The Capital Grille recently launched their Spring “Plates” menu, featuring three new selections: Asparagus Soup, Shrimp and Piquillo Peppers with Crisp Bomba Rice and Grilled Spring Vegetables. Guests of The Capital Grille can customize their lunch, choosing from nine “plates” offerings – soup or salad, sandwich and a side – all for $18.

If you visit for lunch, make sure you sit out on the gorgeous patio outside and enjoy the relaxing Florida breeze and sun.

According to Executive Chef Matthew Price, “The new Spring “Plates” lunch menu really highlights some of the crisp, garden-fresh ingredients that are in-season now.”

I recently made a visit to sample the menu. One of the first things I noticed was that the wagyu cheeseburger with egg on top was missing from the winter plates menu last season. I had just loved the way the egg yolk topped off the burger, oozing, yellow, delightful. The lobster roll and the mini tenderloin sandwiches stayed on the menu this time, but I think the lobster roll should have left instead of the burger. We’ll see how next season goes!

For starters, the asparagus soup is chicken broth based, made with fresh shavings of asparagus on top, and was creamy, hearty, yet also flavorful. The soup was fun to eat for me because it was the first time I had asparagus as a soup.

Next, Sous Chef Jason O’ Neill explained the creation of the Shrimp and Piquillo Peppers with Crisp Bomba Rice, “First the rice is prepared, risotto style, with butter heated up in a pan to make the rice crisp and not stick, while the peppers and shrimp are sautéed on the side and topped.”

The Capital Grille Kicks-Off 3rd Annual Artist Series Wine Event

2012 Limited-Edition Cabernet Sauvignon to Benefit Share Our Strength ®

$25 to be donated for each bottle sold to Share our Strength to end childhood hunger

(February 24, 2012, Orlando, FL) –The Capital Grille Artist Series Wine Event is returning for its third year this spring, beginning March 19. This annual event gives guests at The Capital Grille a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience an exclusive, limited allocation wine adorned with a unique piece of original artwork as its label, while supporting Share Our Strength® and their mission to end childhood hunger in America. The nationally renowned fine-dining restaurant, known for its dry aged, hand-carved steaks, fresh seafood and award-winning wine list, will once again donate $25 to Share Our Strength® for every limited-edition bottle sold.

This year’s Artist Series wine is an exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon hand-selected by The Capital Grille’s own Master Sommelier, George Miliotes.

“We are extremely pleased to bring back the Artist Series Wine Event for a third consecutive year, as we relish the opportunity to bring our guests a restaurant wine experience unlike any other,” said John Martin, President of The Capital Grille. “As always, we are thrilled to support a worthy cause like Share Our Strength, which helps feed hungry children in America. The Capital Grille has donated nearly $1 million to Share Our Strength over the past four years, and we look forward to reaching and exceeding that milestone this year.”

The Capital Grille Artist Series Cabernet was hand-crafted at Napa Valley’s Freemark Abbey Winery by Ted Edwards, in collaboration with George Miliotes, one of only 186 Master Sommeliers in the world. Fewer than 1,000 cases of this unique wine, blended solely for The Capital Grille, will be produced. The wine’s grapes were harvested from carefully selected vineyards in Napa Valley, where differing elevations and a unique terrain result in the perfect conditions for creamy, roundly textured flavors.

“We are committed not only to a fine dining experience, but also to introducing our guests to the wonderful world of wines,” said Miliotes. “We strive to give our guests the chance to enjoy fine wines from across the globe, and created The Capital Grille Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon to give them an incomparable opportunity to experience a magnificent vintage with ripe fruit flavors, prominent tannin and the complexity and balance expected of a fine Cabernet.”

To match the work of art inside the bottle, The Capital Grille invited artists and wine lovers to submit original art for the bottle’s label, during a competition held last fall. The winning painting, Complexity, by Missouri-based artist Julie Agee, was chosen for the way the vibrant colors and abstract lines perfectly complement the robust flavors and subtle undertones of the wine. The artwork will appear on every individually numbered bottle of The Capital Grille Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon. This is just one part of The Capital Grille’s award-winning wine program, which is routinely recognized by many industry and media outlets. Featuring more than 350 Old and New World selections housed in floor-to-ceiling, temperature-controlled wine kiosks, The Capital Grille also offers a Captain’s List of 125 collector wines. Additionally, guests have the opportunity to lease a wine locker, personalized with an inscribed brass nameplate.

The Capital Grille is located at 9101 International Drive, Suite 1000. Reservations may be made online at www.TheCapitalGrille.com or by calling (407) 370-4392.

The Capital Grille is a fine dining restaurant here in Orlando known for its wonderful selection of steaks and great service. Something that is not well known however is that you can get a relatively great lunch at The Capital Grille for a great price as well.

The Capital Grille recently changed up their lunch “plates” menu where you can choose 3 items from a list of soups, salads, entrees, and sides for $18 for lunch. The items often change from season to season with various items switching in and out. The Lobster Roll and Mini Tenderloins seem to be a crowd favorite as it has appeared on the list the past few seasons, as are the truffle fries.

The Capital Grille’s Winter “Plates” menu recently debuted these three new selections:

– Roasted Pepper Soup

– Roasted Root Vegetables

– Wagyu Cheeseburger with Fried Egg with Crisp Onions

The spicy, hearty Roasted Pepper soup consists of red peppers, celery, onion, parsnip, carrots, chicken broth and cream and is sure to warm you up on those cold winter days (of which we have been lacking much this season quite honestly).

The root vegetables sides are made of roasted celery, parsnip, and carrots which are in their peak in the winter season. They were good but not my favorite. I guess I am not a big fan of vegetables in general.

Something I was a big fan of was the wagyu cheeseburger. The Wagyu Cheeseburger with Fried Egg with Crisp onions was a wonderful burger, made with Wagyu, the American version of Kobe beef, that has been ground and seasoned and cooked to the temperature of your liking. The havarty cheese and the fried egg still runny on top and the crunchy crisp onions all make for a great contrast in textures and accentuating the taste for this burger.

Check it out at the Capital Grille in Orlando on International Drive soon before the menu changes up again!

Fall is in the air. As we get ready for the autumn harvest, many local restaurants are starting to bring out their new menus featuring fall squash, pumpkin, and other dishes in season. The Capital Grille recently invited me to check out their current fall lunch and share with our readers. Many visitors don’t realize that the Capital Grille is not just about awesome steaks, they have an awesome lunch menu as well. Check it out!

The Fall Lunch “Plates” menu kicked off on September 26, offering guests new customizable combinations of soup or salad, a sandwich and a side – all for $18. Guests of The Capital Grille can choose from nine “plates” offerings – three soups/salads, three sandwiches and three sides, including “Knife and Fork” BLT, creamy Porcini Bisque and Roasted Butternut Squash with Cranberry Chutney.

“Our new Knife and Fork BLT adds a signature twist to this classic sandwich favorite. A generous portion of crisp bacon is paired with a Grana Padano Cheese Crisp and Heirloom Tomatoes on a bed of lettuce, topped with a unique black pepper and chive aioli,” notes Executive Chef Matthew Price. “We are also pleased to offer dishes made with seasonal vegetables like mushrooms and butternut squash. Our creamy Porcini Bisque captures the rich flavor of the mushrooms in a smooth, velvety soup. We added our special twist to Roasted Butternut Squash by pairing it with Cranberry Chutney for a balance of flavors that is sure to please.”

The Capital Grille also features traditional lunch menu favorites like French Onion Soup, The Grille’s Signature Cheeseburger, Ribeye Steak Sandwich with Caramelized Onions and Havarti or the Lobster and Crab Burger, among other classics.

I was recently invited by the folks at The Capital Grille (located near the Orange County Convention Center on International Drive) for an exclusive media preview event showcasing the new summer wine event that they are presenting called “The Generous Pour”. From July 12 through September 4th, guests can enjoy 9 world-class wines for $25 with dinner during The Capital Grille’s Generous Pour Summer Wine Event. Each featured wine was specially chosen from unique vineyards around the world by The Capital Grille’s Master Sommelier, George Miliotes, one of only 173 Master Sommeliers in the world.

We were able to tweet to George @thewineexpert and the conversation could be followed with the hashtag #tcgpour11 on twitter.com . You can actually tweet George @thewineexpert throughout the event till September 4th regarding any questions if you so choose.

The Generous Pour Wine Event introduces guests to some of the season’s newest wine trends, while also offering hard-to-find varietals as well as known favorites. Highlights from this summer’s chic collection of choice whites and reds are:

· Tarima Hill Monastrell, 2009 – Making its U.S. debut at The Capital Grille this summer, this spectacular varietal is setting a new standard for Spanish medium-bodied red wine.

· Chalk Hill Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, 2006 – Named for the volcanic chalk under the vineyard’s hillside surface, which gives a delightfully unique quality to the wine’s flavor, this rich, dense wine is one of Sonoma Valley’s best.

· Marquis de la Tour, NV – This sparkling “bubbly” hails from a vineyard in France’s Loire Valley, which has been producing excellence since 1885.

· Conte Brandolini Vistorta Merlot, 2006 – Harvested from 100-year-old vines in a small vineyard in Northeast Italy, this merlot epitomizes powerful elegance.

The full list of wine are as follows:

White Wines
– Marquis de la Tour, Cremant de Loire Brut, Sparkling Wine
– La Cana Albarino, 2010
– Chateau St. Jean Belle Terre Chardonnay, 2008

From time to time, I am lucky enough on this blog to be invited out to media previews and special events to showcase upcoming openings or menu items. This time I was invited to visit The Capital Grille on International Drive to check out the recent arrival of their new Summer Plates menu. The Summer plates menu is kind of like a “you pick two” deal (you actually get to pick three) for lunch.

Mini Tenderloin at The Capital Grille – Summer Plates menu

One of my favorite items on the menu was the mini tenderloin sandwiches made with fresh, juicy cuts of tenderloin steak and snuggled inside a delicious bun. Another favorite was the lobster roll, a hoagie filled with lobster meat and romaine lettuce. The best side was the truffle fries topped with parmesan cheese. I thought the roasted corn bisque could use improving, as I enjoyed that dish the least out of the group.

All in all, I thought the summer plate specials were a great, reasonably priced addition to the Capital Grille’s menu and is definitely recommended to check out. Though the Capital Grille is known for serving to high end clientele and conventioneers at the local Orange County Convention down the street on International Drive, I think The Capital Grille can also be a great place to try out some great dishes for locals as well, especially considering the new summer plates menu.

For the second year, The Capital Grille extended a call-to-arms for artists across the country to design a label for their exclusive Artist Series Wine. Beginning March 21, the wine with the winning label will be available at the restaurant for purchase.

Best of all, The Capital Grille will donate $25 from the sale of each limited-edition bottle to Share Our Strength and its mission to end childhood hunger in America.

The Artist Series Wine Event Returns to The Capital Grille

Exclusive, Limited-Production Wine Offered: Sales to Benefit National Charity

(February 8, 2011, New York, NY) – The Capital Grille – nationally renowned fine-dining restaurant known for its dry aged, hand-carved steaks, fresh seafood and award-winning wine list – is proud to announce the return of their annual Artist Series Wine Event: a unique celebration of the worlds of fine art and winemaking, featuring an exclusive, limited allocation wine adorned with an original piece of artwork as its label.

Beginning March 21, The Capital Grille will offer an exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon during their second annual Artist Series Wine Event. The wine will be available exclusively at all 44 locations of The Capital Grille, and the company will donate $25 from the sale of each limited bottle to Share Our Strength® and its mission to end childhood hunger in America.

The Capital Grille Artist Series Cabernet was hand-crafted by Thomas Peffer, a world-class winemaker from Atalon Vineyards in Napa Valley, with the help of The Capital Grille’s George Miliotes, one of only 170 Master Sommeliers in the world. The grapes used were from specially selected vineyards in Napa Valley whose high elevation and unique microclimate result in the perfect conditions for creamy, boldly textured flavors. Blended solely for The Capital Grille, fewer than 1,000 cases of this unique wine will be produced.

“We are committed to providing a distinctive, accessible and personal wine experience,” said Miliotes. “We created The Capital Grille Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon to give our guests an incomparable opportunity to experience a magnificent vintage with ripe fruit flavors, prominent tannin and the complexity and balance expected of a fine Cabernet.”

To match the work of art inside the bottle, The Capital Grille invited artists, label enthusiasts and wine lovers to create an original label for the wine during a competition held last autumn. The winning painting, Pairings, by Florida-based artist Patricia Timbrook, was chosen for the way the bold colors and fluid lines perfectly complement the robust flavors and subtle undertones of the wine, and will appear on every individually numbered bottle of The Capital Grille Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon.

“In addition to supporting our national charity, Share Our Strength®, we are proud to recognize and celebrate talented artists like Patricia Timbrook,” said John Martin, President of The Capital Grille. “As always, we look forward to bringing our guests an exceptional and unique wine and dining experience. We’re especially pleased when those experiences help support a worthy cause.”

The Capital Grille Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon will complement The Capital Grille’s award-winning wine program, which is routinely recognized by Wine Spectator magazine. Featuring more than 325 Old and New World selections housed in floor-to-ceiling, temperature-controlled wine kiosks, The Capital Grille also offers a Captain’s List of 125 collector wines. Additionally, guests have the opportunity to lease a wine locker, personalized with an inscribed brass nameplate.

I visited The Capital Grille once before during their wine tasting event and was graciously invited back to try a new twist on their fall flavors and give my thoughts.

Capital Grille Menu

This fall, the Capital Grille began offering a “Flavors of the Pacific Northwest” menu from September 20 to October 31st (hurry and get there before it runs out!). Each restaurant has a different special dish that rotates around from this menu. Here in Orlando during my visit to the Capital Grille, the Seared Halibut with Harvest Vegetables was on the menu.

I ordered the Seared Halibut on my visit and was delighted by its taste. The fish was seared to perfection, not too dry and not too soft, very lightly seasoned going well with the Conundrum, a 2008 California white wine suggested by our very attentive and considerate waitress for the evening.

Photobucket

The Seared Halibut

Other items that go well with the main dish include the Lobster Mac and Cheese, a dish filled with decadent cheeses and chunks of lobster meat (A favorite), and the prosciutto wrapped mozzarella, a slightly salty appetizer. The roasted tomatoes and lemon gusto that came with the seared halibut was a fine addition to the fish as well.

Overall, I would definitely go to The Capital Grille especially if you are on a business trip to Orlando staying near the Convention Center or out on a special date or want to escape for a moment, but do remember to bring the company card.

In this unique culinary event, The Capital Grille is offering new menu items inspired by the “Flavors of the Pacific Northwest” from September 20 to October 31. The specials reflect The Capital Grille’s innovative take on classic Northwest cuisine, focusing on authentic, quality ingredients from the region.

Enjoy dishes such as Seared Halibut with Harvest Vegetables and Tenderloin of Beef with Morel Mushrooms.

Of course, the Pacific Northwest is also known for its excellent wines and The Capital Grille’s own Master Sommelier, George Miliotes, has hand-selected several choices to complement this special autumn meal. Guests can choose Willakenzie Pinot Noir from Oregon, or Cold Creek Merlot from Washington’s Chateau Ste. Michelle, just one of the many internationally recognized vineyards in the Northwest.

Be sure to save room for The Capital Grille’s house-made desserts. The delectable Warm Washington Apple Tart with Handcrafted Vanilla Bean Ice Cream is certain to provide a perfect end to your Pacific Northwest culinary journey.

“We believe this special menu further exemplifies our dedication to an exceptional dining experience,” said Randy Cook, Managing Partner of The Capital Grille Orlando. “This menu showcases our chef’s culinary artistry, with artisanal twists on a uniquely American cuisine.”

The Capital Grille Orlando is located at 9101 International Drive. Reservations can be made by calling (407) 370-4392 or by visiting TheCapitalGrille.com. In addition to its main dining room, The Capital Grille features private dining rooms for up to 36 guests, as well as the Chef’s Table, with a front line view of the open kitchen, accommodating up to 10 guests.

I was graciously invited by the establishment at The Capital Grille (headquartered here in Orlando) for a lovely evening of wine tasting, a special event going on all this month till September. Here is a sneak peak of what awaits:

At The Capital Grille, located right off of International Drive in the Point Orlando complex, wine isn’t just a drink you order off the menu; it’s a celebrated affair. The waiters here at Capital Grille, under the tutelage of Master Sommelier George Milotes, are trained in the arts of wine pairings, giving great advice on whether that crisp, sweet, white wine complements that seafood appetizer that you may be having or if that red wine might go better with that steak tonight. The Master Sommelier Wine Tasting event, as described previously, is a great event worth any wine connoisseur or novice beginner’s time in trying out. For just a reasonable price you are able to sample over 10 specially selected wines from New Zealand, California, Italy and more over the course of the next few weeks.

Inside the Capital Grille you will notice that the decor and setting is very much American, very much what I would imagine a old boy’s club would feel like with vintage paintings and hunting assortments on the walls; the perfect place to go for a business or corporate outing I would surmise, with the relative closeness of the Orange County Convention Center nearby and all.

The meal begins with a special seafood appetizer prepared by the chef this evening, filled with luscious lumps of crab meat, lobster, and shrimp topped with a sweet corn salsa. This appetizer went very well with the lunetta prosecco of Italy, light and crisp and slightly sweet, a perfect start or end to any meal. The pan fried calamari with hot cherry peppers was a fiery spicy dish that would awake any taste bud.

Our waitress this evening is gracious and well educated (thanks to the Master Sommelier and the other staff here I am sure) on the various wine offerings this evening for the event as well as great choices for entrees and options and always checking up on us often to see how things are.

For the entrees, I chose the classic cut of a Delmonico dry aged steak seasoned and broiled to create a delicate porcini mushroom crust with a light drizzling of premium 12-year aged balsamic. It went very well with the assortment of red wines that accompanied the steak, my favorite being the Beringer Ranch merlot from California and the Wild Rock pinot noir from New Zealand, both excellent reds. My partner this evening enjoyed her bone-in koma crusted dry aged sirloin with caramelized shallot butter just as much. The bok choy lettuce and au gratin potato sides went very well with our steaks as well, possibly pushing us over the tipping point. But alas there is a final act.

The desserts ordered this evening were the trio of handcrafted ice creams with double chocolate and coconut cookies and the chocolate hazelnut cake, both decadent, sweet endings to a absolutely wonderful meal.

Special thanks go out to Heather Dratler, Randy Cook, and Shannon Niedenthal for making this happen, a wonderful team over there at the Capital Grille.

I had the unique opportunity and distinct honor this past week to interview Master Sommelier George Miliotes, Orlando native and Master Sommelier of The Capital Grille, also headquartered here in Orlando, Florida.

The Master Wine Tasting Event is going on now at The Capital Grille for the next 12 weeks. The first six weeks will feature wine from California’s Napa Valley, including a Bancroft Ranch merlot from Beringer Vineyards, a cabernet sauvignon from Sella & Mosca Marchese di Villamarina and other Italian varietals as well as a pinot noir and other varietals from New Zealand’s Villa Maria Cellar Selection. The second six weeks will highlight a chardonnay from California’s Cambria Winery and Vineyards, an impressive collection from Spain (including a Jorge Ordoñez Muscat Alexandria) and several wines from Australia (including The Chook Sparkling Shiraz).

For more info about the Master Wine Tasting Event at The Capital Grille going on now: http://www.thecapitalgrille.com/videos/MasterWine2010/V1/main.asp

Who is George Miliotes?

Born and raised in Orlando, George comes from a family which have owned restaurants and have been active in the food industry in Central Florida since 12 years old. His first work with wine began at 14 with his family’s delis in the mall, where he began cleaning and reading the labels for the selection of wine in the back rooms, sparking his life-long curiosity and interest in the food industry.

With college, his extensive alcohol knowledge resulted in positive outcomes and after college, George went on to add even more knowledge about wines, and became a dedicated professional specializing in beverages and food.

With his knowledge he was able to travel to Argentina, Spain, Italy, and Germany to make the best product possible as Master Sommelier for The Capital Grille

What is a Master Sommelier?

George Milotes is one of 170 wine experts in the world to hold that title, given to a person only after 4 levels of testing in the Court of Master Sommeliers. The first test includes 45 minute questions about alcohol, how they are made, different laws, serving requirements, and temperatures. The second test is a service exam where a dining room is set up and the candidate is tested on canting wine, opening champagne, bordeaux vinetages, wine lists, as well as sales and humility. The third test is probably the most daunting: a blind test where three Master Sommeliers judge you with 6 wines, 3 white and 3 red, with 25 minutes to describe their origin, quality, year, and make. Quite a daunting task to accomplish and indeed an honor to be a Master Sommelier.

Master sommeliers place huge priority on teaching and educating people, technical terminology and the parameters to speak about wine and food.

What is the Master Wine Tasting Event?

What’s special about the Capital Grille is that the Capital Grille servers are trained in pairings for wine and dishes, with each having their own personality and way about it. The Capital Grille Master Wine Tasting Event allows the guest to have 11 different wines to try from around the world.

The beauty of this experience is that if you order fried calamari as appetizer, you will learn that it is not a italian cabernet, but the persecco from northern italy will go well with the calamari instead. When you order your steak and order a delmonico, you can order three different reds and you can figure out yourself what can go well with the steak and what will be pleasurable to you.

Tips for Newbies

When pairing wine with food

There are Two types of pairings between food and wine

Contrasting and Complementary

Contrasting Pairing-

When you have a steak, steaks have a lot of richness and fat. You would want to cleanse the palate each time of bite, and
taste will not taste as good each time if you don’t cleanse the palate. The cabernet’s tannon cleanses the palate and tastes extra good with the taste of the steak. With the next bite of steak, it contrasts the richness of the steak and the tannon in the red wine.

Complementary Pairing

If you order a rich lobster, a rich shell fish you will be paired a chardonnay aged in oak, also very rich and they work together very well

So two things to look at:

To contrast: to cleanse palate and make taste better
or to complement: take two things that taste well together

Fabolous opportunity to learn in the next 12 weeks about wine. For the next 6 weeks for 25$ for wine tastings , three of the wines can be tried in any amount, one would be 130$ per bottle, merlot, cabernet usually 150$ / bottle, merina cabernet from italy 150$ to 200$ for wine, but because of their work for pricing you can come in and have your server show you fabolous wines at a very good price for hand picked wines.

During the 2nd six weeks , they take italian wines and new zealand and then use spanish, australian and american wines.

Orlando’s Taste of the Nation® for No Kid Hungry brings together the area’s top chefs who donate their time, talent and passion to end childhood hunger in Central Florida. Along with culinary delights, guests have the opportunity to sample select wines, cocktails and premium beers and enjoy silent and live auctions and entertainment. Every dollar raised fights hunger and homelessness in the Central Florida. Local beneficiaries include Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and Florida Impact.

Central Florida’s most distinguished chefs will join forces August 27, 2016 to help fight the nation’s childhood hunger epidemic at Orlando’s Taste of the Nation® for No Kid Hungry. Forty-five of the area’s most accomplished chefs will showcase tasting portions of signature dishes, accompanied by fine wines, craft beers and specialty cocktails at the Orlando World Center Marriott to ensure children struggling with hunger in our city and across America are connected to the meals they need.

New to this year’s event are 10 of the area’s most popular and exciting restaurants including Benihana, Canvas Lake Nona, Eleven and Forte at Reunion Resort, Hemisphere Restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport, Nova Scratch Kitchen, The Osprey Tavern, Restaurant ASH, STK and The Rusty Spoon.

Several popular brewers, wine purveyors and spirit vendors have also been tapped for this year’s event, including Brew Bus USA, Cigar City Brewing, Crooked Can Brewery, Orlando Brewery, Red Light, Red Light Beer Parlour, Small Town Brewery, Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant, Lakeridge Winery, Nestle Waters | S. Pell & Acqua Panna, Onli Beverage Co., Funky Monkey, Palm Ridge Reserve Whiskey and Tito’s Vodka.

In its 27th year, Orlando’s Taste of the Nation for No Kid Hungry is the region’s longest-running and most trend-forward food and beverage event raising funds and awareness for children’s nutrition programs provided by national beneficiary Share Our Strength, regional beneficiary Florida Impact, and local beneficiaries Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.

In addition to appetizing food, fine wines, craft beers and premium spirits, guests also enjoy a fully automated mobile silent auction featuring signed memorabilia, stays at upscale hotels, dining experiences, rounds of golf on area courses, and exotic adventures and getaways.

The Giving Tree raffle, sponsored by Edible Orlando, returns for the second year inviting guests to win a taste of Orlando’s most popular establishments. For a $50 donation, guests can select a Giving Tree envelope hanging from a towering tree containing a gift certificate ranging from $25 to $300 in value. The event’s ever-popular Instant Wine Cellar game offers participants a chance to win more than 150 bottles of wine valued at more than $2,500. There are only 250 chances to win this exquisite wine cellar. Each key is a $25 donation.

Guests can also win fine bottles of wine with the all-new Ring Toss for Wine fundraiser. Rings are available for purchase to toss onto wine bottles ?$5 for two tosses or $10 for six tosses. When a ring lands around a bottle neck, the guest wins a bottle of wine to take home.

A handful of students from The Second Harvest Culinary Training Program will be at Orlando’s Taste of the Nation this year to lend the cooking skills they have mastered in Second Harvest’s 14-week program designed to provide qualified, at-risk and economically disadvantaged adults with the culinary and life skills training needed to pursue a sustainable career in the food industry.

“For our culinary students to be able to work alongside Orlando’s top chefs at Taste of the Nation is a one-of-a-kind experience and learning opportunity that we cannot teach in the classroom,” said Chef Israel Santiago, head training chef at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.

Leading up to the 27th Annual Orlando’s Taste of the Nation for No Kid Hungry, we will be holding a Golden Ticket raffle. If you find the Golden Ticket at any participating restaurant, you will win two tickets to this year’s Taste of the Nation.

How do I win? Visit any one of our participating restaurants or beverage partners, and ask your server if any Orlando Taste Golden Ticket envelopes are available. Open up the provided envelope – you could win the Golden Ticket – two FREE tickets to Orlando’s Taste of the Nation!

What are the rules? There is only one concrete rule: In order to participate, you must be dining at that establishment. Please note that some restaurants may limit the number of envelopes per table, per day. We just ask that you play fairly, have fun, and be sure to share on social!

I found a Golden Ticket! What now? Now is the fun part! In your envelope, you will also find two tickets to the event on the 27th. Celebrate! Inform your server. Pull out your phones/cameras, snap a shot, and share via your favorite social media channels with hashtag #OrlTaste. Be sure to tag us!

And that’s it! Have fun with it, and thank you again for participating in our first ever Golden Ticket Game! If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact Melissa Kear at mkear@feedhopenow.org.
