(Orlando, FL)— Chef Hung Huynh, the Top Chef Season 3 winner and current Culinary Director of Mills Market, announces his next venture: Pomelo, a bold new Southeast Asian bar concept opening in Spring 2026 in the heart of Orlando’s Mills 50 District.
Located at 1632 N Mills Avenue (formerly The Twisted Handle, next to Bites & Bubbles in the Fresh Market Plaza), Pomelo will be a laid-back, 2,600-square-foot indoor and outdoor bar offering vibrant Southeast Asian flavors, live-fire cooking, and tropical cocktails in a relaxed, social atmosphere.
With seating for around 100 guests, Pomelo’s large outdoor patio will serve as a lively neighborhood gathering place — complete with seafood towers, bar snacks and shareables, and a Happy Hour program designed for long evenings and late-night hangs.
“When the space became available, what drew us was the large outdoor area,” says Chef Hung. “We envisioned it as the ideal space for socializing — a tropical oasis where people can relax, share great food, and just enjoy themselves.”
Pomelo marks Chef Hung’s first restaurant in Orlando, created in partnership with restaurateur brothers Jimmy and Johnny Tung.
“Chef Hung has played a huge role in shaping Mills Market and we appreciate him so much that we wanted to support him in opening his first restaurant in Orlando. Working at Mills Market for the last year, he’s grown to love the energy and culture of the Mills 50 neighborhood. The menu will be a collection of some of his greatest hits throughout his amazing career,” said Johnny Tung.
As Culinary Director of Mills Market, Chef Hung has been instrumental in shaping the market’s success, including dessert shop Saigon Snow, and Michelin Bib Gourmand-winning Banh Mi Boy, known for their fresh, modern takes on Vietnamese and Southeast Asian favorites. He will continue to lead the culinary vision at Mills Market while bringing his personal heritage and creativity to Pomelo.
Designed as a tropical escape in the middle of Mills 50, Pomelo will blend the energy of a lively bar with the warmth and soul of Southeast Asian cooking — offering everything from fire-grilled seafood to vibrant cocktails inspired by the region’s fruits and spices.
Pomelo will offer surface lot and garage parking, with plans to open Spring 2026. Follow @pomelo.fl on Instagram for updates.

By flash-freezing an extensive selection of meats, seafood, and other proteins at their peak freshness, the company aims to redefine how consumers stock their kitchens. But what truly sets them apart, and what can shoppers expect for the upcoming holidays?
To get the inside scoop, we sat down with Matt Gilbert from Wild Fork to discuss everything from new and must-try items to the brand’s philosophy.

Whether you are a Wild Fork regular or a curious first-timer, this interview offers a valuable look into a company that is changing the way people think about frozen food.
For those who have never been before, how would you describe Wild Fork?

Exciting news from MCO today – Orlando will have nonstop flights to Asia for the first time in its history! Read on for details! We will also be sharing tips and tricks for travel to Japan and foodie highlights from our last summer’s trip soon!!
From Press Release:
For the first time in its history, Orlando International Airport will offer nonstop passenger charter service to Tokyo, enriching cultural ties and creating more opportunities for robust economic activity between two of the world’s most visited regions.
The announcement was made at the Hotel New Otani on Tuesday to a wide-ranging audience of company executives from Disney, government representatives, and tourism officials, along with dozens of media members. The new service with ZIPAIR is not only the first-ever nonstop passenger flight between Tokyo and Orlando, but also the first nonstop passenger service between Florida and the Asia Pacific. Tokyo had been Orlando’s largest unserved Asian market.
“Our partnership with ZIPAIR is more than just a new route. It’s history,” said Lance Lyttle, Chief Executive Officer for the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, which operates Orlando International Airport. “This will be the first-ever nonstop passenger flight between Asia Pacific and the state of Florida. The partnership is a testament to the economic strength we share between our communities. We look forward to welcoming ZIPAIR passengers with the warmth and hospitality that both our nations cherish.”
“We are extremely proud of this historic achievement, as this will be the first non-stop charter flight from Japan to Orlando, Florida,” said Shingo Nishida, Representative Director/President, ZIPAIR Tokyo. “Orlando is home to numerous world-class theme parks and by operating these charter flights for travelers from Japan, we hope to meet our customers’ expectations when they experience ZIPAIR’s new standard in air travel. We certainly look forward to welcoming Disney fans and guests on our charter flights next Spring.”
GOAA’s Chief Commercial Officer Vicki Jaramillo was in Tokyo to make the announcement. Also attending was Alex Kelly, Secretary of the Florida Department of Commerce, and Matt Swanson, Interim President of SelectFlorida, the state’s international trade and investment agency. ZIPAIR will operate four charter flights between MCO (Orlando) and NRT (Tokyo) between February 23 and March 10, 2026.
Travel and tourism leaders say the charter flights could lay the groundwork for additional service between Orlando and Tokyo.
The announcement quickly drew support across the Central Florida region, which has collaborated for several years to bring passenger flights to and from Japan.
Atsuko Germano, mickeynet, LLC: “This is a tremendous win for international tourism and for our guests. By providing more direct and convenient access, this charter passenger service will open the door for countless families and travelers to enjoy the unforgettable adventures these destinations offer on both sides of the Pacific.”
Faron Kelley, SVP, Disney Destinations Sales Strategy & Solutions, Disney Experiences: “Direct connectivity between Orlando and Tokyo brings Disney magic closer than ever. Whether it’s exploring the wonder of Walt Disney World Resort or enjoying the enchantment of Tokyo Disney Resort, this new nonstop flight opens the door to unforgettable vacations and cherished memories for families and friends on both sides of the globe.”
Casandra Matej, President &CEO, Visit Orlando: “This new direct air service from Tokyo is a landmark moment for Orlando, opening an entirely new gateway and making us the first destination in Florida with connectivity with Asia. It reflects years of collaboration with Orlando International Airport, Disney and several Central Florida tourism partners, and supports Visit Orlando’s long-term vision to grow international visitation. This new route unlocks exciting opportunities to showcase Orlando’s world-famous theme parks, thrilling sports, vibrant culinary scene, and rich cultural experiences to travelers across Asia.”
D.T. Minich, President & CEO, Experience Kissimmee: “Connecting two continents through this new air service is more than a new destination – it’s also a bridge between cultures, economies, and opportunities. Every new flight brings our regions closer together, encouraging the exchange of ideas, the growth of tourism, and the strengthening of business partnerships.”

At the tender age of 15, my first job ever was at Tan Tien Asian market in west Orlando. I did everything from stock boy, produce, cleaning fish, meat butchery, and cashier; many of the core skills that I still use today as executive chef at Seito Sushi Baldwin Park. Being born and raised here in America, what I loved the most about the market was exploring and trying ingredients I never tasted before. The owner would make family meal for the staff and I got to help him. Eventually it became my responsibility, and my first chef position was there at this little Asian market.
A tradition in culture and a fundamental part of life in Vietnam is to visit the local Asian market daily – the backbone of the community. Asian markets in American create a bridge for culture sharing and allows me as a chef to source ingredients not typical with our restaurant purveyors. I am able to introduce recipes that are uncommon with the American palate and also represent who I am as a chef. I’ve learned to let the market tell you what to cook, starting with finding the best quality ingredients and what you are craving, sort of like reverse engineering recipes. My favorite memories though will always be the interactions and meeting people from the community there.
I am among the many Central Floridians that are excited for the arrival of H Mart – the massively popular Korean supermarket and food hall (slated to be the largest H Mart in the world) finally opening its doors in Orlando this September 25th – but also hope our community continues to support the diverse markets we already have here in Orlando, such as Tan Tien. Whether you’re looking for South East Asian to East Asian ingredients, each market specializes with their own uniqueness. To my chef and restaurant foodie friends, I hope that you can find time and food budget to continue to source from these local Asian markets here in Orlando, and I hope we can preserve them as long as possible.

The art installations at EDC Orlando are known for their spectacular and immersive nature, serving as “bridges… between nature and technology” – these pieces are a key part of the festival’s unique atmosphere, featuring three-dimensional superstructures and vibrant, interactive designs.
Here are some of the types of art installations you can expect:
Massive, multi-dimensional sculptures: These can include giant, colorfully lit flora and fauna, oversized statues, and other large-scale structures.
Glow-in-the-dark environments: The art is specifically designed to be experienced after dark, with LED-infused decorations that create a magical atmosphere.
Interactive art: Attendees are encouraged to engage with the installations. Some pieces, like the signature art cars, are not just for looking but for experiencing.
Themed stages: The main stages are also works of art in themselves. They are transformed each year to fit the festival’s specific theme, complete with dazzling light displays and fireworks. For example:
kineticFIELD: This stage is the centerpiece of the festival and changes its form each year to match the annual theme.
neonGARDEN: Known for its house and techno music, this stage is often a more stripped-back design, focusing on lighting effects to create an intimate atmosphere reminiscent of warehouse parties.
Signature Insomniac Art Cars: These are mobile, elaborately designed vehicles that act as stages for performers, bringing music and artistry to different parts of the festival. A well-known example is the Wide Awake Art Car.
The art at EDC is commissioned by Insomniac from a variety of new and emerging artists, ensuring a unique and evolving experience year after year. The festival’s organizers work to create a sense of wonder and use the art to inspire attendees.

NORMAN’S Orlando restaurant founder and “Florida’s Culinary Icon”, Norman Van Aken, is collaborating with the James Beard Foundation to host a “Friends of James Beard Benefit” honoring Orlando James Beard recognized Chefs and Restaurateurs.
This “Toast to Orlando” will be presented by Chef Van Aken, a James Beard Foundation “Who’s Who” recipient and the first chef to be named to the James Beard Foundation’s Board of Directors.
NORMAN’S culinary team is led by Chef Carlos Robles-Molina who is joined in this celebration which features a group of honored Orlando chefs and restaurateurs, offering various hors d’oeuvres, wine selections, culinary and cocktail stations.
Chef Van Aken remarked “In 1988, I dedicated my first cookbook to Mr. Beard. His vision for the inclusiveness of all cultures spoke deeply to me. I am grateful to host this lasting appreciation of his work with the multigenerational chef and beverage artisans who devote their energies for this gathering year round.”
The event will be a jubilation of Orlando’s most acclaimed chefs including Lordfer Lalicon, James & Julie Petrakis, Kevin Fonzo, Brandon McGlamery, Rabii Saber, and Sue & Jason Chin, Stefan Riemer, Andres Mendoza, Camilo Velasco, and Derek Perez, as we honor their excellence and highlight our city’s place on the world culinary stage.
We will also have exquisite wine, cocktail, and mocktail pairings curated by NORMAN’S Sommelier, Matthew Mercier, alongside celebrated wine professionals including Lee Pancake (Slate Wine Academy), Shaun Wright (Mõet & Hennessey), Connor Doran (Slate Wine Academy), and Eric Renaud (ACE Wine & Spirits). There will be multiple culinary and cocktail presentations throughout the restaurant and stunning Terrace, with live music, and a silent auction directly benefitting the work of the James Beard Foundation.
Complimentary Valet service along with ample free parking, are available at the 7924 Via Dellagio Way, Orlando, FL restaurant location.
You can get more information about the James Beard Foundation below, with tickets available via OpenTable.
From Chef Norman Van Aken: “On August 5th of 1986 we drove up to Miami from Key West. I was the Executive Chef/Partner of “Louie’s Backyard” , which was by many folks reckoning the most beautiful place to dine on the Island and arguably the best.
I was accompanied by my wife, Janet our pastry chef Sue Porter and my business partner/friend Proal Perry to do the very first “James Beard Dinner” in the state of Florida and among the very first in America. It was at a restaurant culinarily helmed by Chef Michael Chiarello. I prepared, ‘Conch Lasagna’ for a main course as well as ‘Grilled-Chilled Tuna with Oriental Vegetables and a Ginger Vinaigrette’ for my first. Sue made ‘Black Pepper, Apples and Calvados in Puff Pastry with Warm Chocolate Sauce’.
When we were invited a month or so before that night I knew of Mr. Beard’s work. His cookbook, “Theory and Practice of Good Cooking” was the very first cookbook I purchased. But doing the dinners to celebrate the newly formulated foundation was so novel I had to ask for an explanation from the gentleman who put the event together. I have spent many years doing many more events with the James Beard Foundation. Some at the legendary townhouse in Greenwich Village where he lived and taught many cooking classes. Some at my dear friend Charlie Trotter’s restaurant in Chicago, and over the years with chefs coming in from all around the world to join in. We did the first International James Beard Dinner in Mexico where I cooked with a ‘who’s who’ of chefs that week. We also did one in Milan, Italy just a few years ago. And we held many at NORMAN’S in all our locations. An honor at every one of them. I spent nearly three years as the first chef to become part of the JBF Board starting in 2006 when a new administration came in lead by the late, great Dorothy Cann-Hamilton initially and then by JBF President Susan Ungaro.
I can remember in detail how impressed I was with the people, their dedication and brilliance. I felt fortunate to be amidst them. One of key members and long serving members of the foundation is Izabela Wojcik. She is the ‘Director of Special Fund-Raising Initiatives’. I am thrilled that Izabela will be attending our celebration on October 10th. She has so much love for hospitality and knows just about every chef of consequence in America past and present. She was the person who first put the idea forth about seeing if I wanted to ‘make a little noise’ as the saying goes in music.”
Natsu is a Michelin-starred intimate omakase restaurant in Orlando’s North Quarter where guests receive a chef-curated multi-course sushi experience. Chef-partner Stone Lin previously worked in high end Japanese restaurants for over a decade in New York (including Shuko) and brought that precision and artistry to Orlando.
For someone new to omakase, it’s a guided, immersive experience where you trust the chef to choose each dish for you. Guests can expect to be served seasonal delicacies, fish-forward and elegant, in a calm and intimate setting.
The menu begins with small “otsumami” dishes (like chawanmushi or truffle kampachi) and moves into nigiri and sushi, ending with a hand roll and dessert. Each course tells a story through flavor and presentation.
Natsu earned a Michelin star two years in a row. Chef Stone, what did that milestone mean to you and the team? It motivates us to keep pushing ourselves to an even higher standard. Every day, we remind ourselves that the goal is not just to maintain, but to grow through every detail we present to our guests. The Michelin star is an incredible recognition, not just of the food, but of the focus and discipline our team brings to the experience every night. It validated the countless hours of refining, training, and evolving. We are truly lucky to receive such a high honor and owe it to all our guests who support us and what we do.
What do you think sets Natsu apart in Orlando’s fine-dining landscape? Simplicity, warmth, and attention to detail. We focus on genuine hospitality and precision without pretension. We try to allow the ingredients and moments to speak for themselves. We continue to focus on consistency and refinement. Every menu change is a new opportunity to challenge ourselves to be sharper, calmer, and more thoughtful in execution.
You came to Orlando after establishing yourself in New York, most notably at Shuko, which was dubbed “the most exciting new Japanese restaurant” in 2015. How did your experience there influence what you brought to Natsu? Every place I’ve worked shaped my understanding of discipline and respect for ingredients. At Natsu, I want guests to feel that respect in every bite. My philosophy is balance, restraint, and respect. Complexity in simplicity. I work closely with my team to explore how to express those ideas through every dish we create.
How do you balance elegance, technique, and approachability in your cuisine? By keeping things honest. To me, technique should be invisible. It’s the foundation, not the performance. Elegance is in restraint and approachability comes from humility. When all three are in harmony, the food doesn’t just impress but connects with our guests.
The “quartet” behind Natsu includes you (Chef-Partner), Chef Anthony Esquivel, and manager Dylan Sobien. Can you tell us more about each of their roles and how you work together? Anthony is a true cornerstone to the Natsu team. His commitment and focus are second to none. Dylan brings calm leadership to the front of house, always anticipating what’s needed before it’s spoken. All of our staff strives for a level of detail and attention that elevates the guest experience. We work in unison with no ego, just shared purpose.
Anthony brings precision, speed, and consistency; Dylan brings a deep sense of hospitality and a passion for sake and sharing that with our guests. Together we listen to each other and to our guests in order to create an experience we all share.
We respect each other. We prepare like crazy and we laugh when we can. That culture filters down to the guest. There’s intensity behind the scenes, but it’s never projected outward. We keep relaxed because the guest should never feel the pressure. It’s their night to enjoy.
Why did you choose Orlando, and specifically the North Quarter district, as the home for Natsu? How does the city’s culture and local ingredients inspire the evolution of your menu? Orlando is a city that is growing rapidly. It’s often underestimated, but there’s a real appreciation here for quality, intention, and storytelling through food. The North Quarter had an understated charm but still close to downtown. It felt like the right canvas for something intimate and quiet. Orlando has a growing respect for quality and authenticity. Diners here are becoming increasingly adventurous and open-minded, which aligns perfectly with a menu that evolves seasonally and prioritizes ingredients at their peak. We’re fortunate that the city’s food scene gives us the freedom to create with intention and ease.
With only two seatings per night and an intimate, minimalist aesthetic, how do you craft the pace and feel of each dining experience? We try to make every seating feel natural, never rushed. Timing, temperature, and flow are all carefully considered. By limiting to two seatings, we avoid rushing. It’s about presence, both ours and the guests’. We want it to feel effortless, but that effort is very intentional.
Which dishes, seasonal specials or omakase signature bites, best reflect Natsu’s philosophy? Probably the sushi. Each piece is a small expression of precision, care, and how we treat the ingredients before they ever reach the counter.
How do you approach sourcing ingredients, from Florida or Japan, and blending local freshness with traditional Japanese technique? We source our fish multiple times a week from Toyosu Market in Japan to maintain authenticity and quality. We choose ingredients by season and connection. Whether local or from Japan, it’s about understanding their peak and expressing them naturally.
Do you have a personal favorite moment or dish to prepare in the omakase lineup? One of my favorite dishes to prepare and to eat is our Hokkaido scallop with horsehair crab. Shellfish has always been something I gravitate toward, and these two ingredients are incredibly elegant on their own. We keep the preparation minimal, with just a touch of citrus and salt, allowing the natural sweetness and texture to really stand out. It is a quiet but deeply satisfying dish.
What are some of your favorite memories growing up around food? Simple meals with family. Those moments taught me that warmth doesn’t come from complexity—it comes from sincerity.
What are your goals for Natsu over the next year or two? Do you have plans for special events, collaborations, or evolving formats? Over the next year or two, our goal is to continue refining the guest experience while staying true to the spirit of omakase. Everything we do is rooted in seasonality, intention, and a personal connection to the craft. We are of course exploring new concepts every day but none that are ready to be officially announced.
How do you see Orlando’s culinary scene growing, and where does Natsu aim to fit in that evolution? There’s something exciting happening in Orlando right now. More and more chefs are pushing boundaries, and diners are really starting to crave deeper, more meaningful experiences. We’re proud and grateful to be part of that shift, but not just as another fine-dining spot, but as a place that’s grounded in intention, creativity, and connection. We strive every day to grow with our peers and the city.

Hot dogs might be simple, but in Orlando they’re anything but boring. From Chicago imports to quirky food trucks, classic delis, and even gourmet creations, this city knows how to dress up a bun and sausage. Whether you like yours fully loaded or straight-up plain, Orlando has a dog for every craving.
A true Orlando classic, Hot Dog Heaven has been slinging authentic Vienna beef hot dogs since 1987. With its no-frills counter-service style, the focus is all about flavor and tradition. Locals swear by their Chicago-style dog, but everything here is worth the bite.
A family-owned staple in Winter Garden, Harrell’s brings the nostalgia with its retro vibe and satisfying dogs. Their menu keeps things simple but classic, with perfectly cooked hot dogs that feel straight out of a ballpark. It’s worth the drive for a taste of small-town charm.

Orlando’s Latin flair shines at Par de Perros, a Colombian-style hot dog spot that takes toppings to the next level. Think cheese, crushed chips, pineapple sauce, and other bold flavors that make every bite a party. It’s vibrant, messy, and a must-try for foodies who love flavor explosions.
Address: 1006 E Altamonte Dr #1002, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701 Phone: 407-951-7267
This spot puts a gourmet spin on the classic hot dog. Think premium sausages tucked into fluffy buns, then loaded with decadent toppings like melted cheese and special sauces. It’s indulgent, Instagram-worthy, and absolutely delicious.
Cholo Dogs is usually found downtown Orlando, often parked near Wall Street Plaza or outside popular nightlife spots. Since it’s a roaming hot dog cart, the best way to catch them is by checking their Instagram for the latest location updates. It’s part of the fun because grabbing a Cholo Dog feels like finding a foodie treasure right in the middle of the city’s nightlife.
Chicago’s pride has made its way to Orlando, and Portillo’s does not disappoint. Their classic Chicago-style dog comes “dragged through the garden” with mustard, relish, onions, tomato, pickle, sport peppers, and celery salt on a poppy seed bun. One bite transports you straight to the Windy City without ever leaving I-Drive.
Address: 400 N Primrose Dr, Orlando, FL 32803 Phone: 407-745-0862
Part retro bowling alley, part lively sports bar, Primrose Lanes has become a neighborhood favorite for fun nights out. Their menu pairs creative bar bites with a standout hot dog that hits the spot whether you’re in between games or just hanging with friends over drinks.

Their ensaymada pillows are pillowy brioche brushed with butter, dusted with sugar, and topped with cheese. You’ll also see custard egg pies (creamy, milky custard sitting in a flaky crust) and bread logs filled with goodies like cheese, ube, pineapple, or macapuno (sweet coconut). Howl-O-Scream is back at SeaWorld Orlando, running select nights from September 5 through November 1, 2025, with gates opening at 6:30 PM and the event officially starting at 7 PM.
The event features five haunted houses with new storylines, six scare zones, themed bars, live shows, rides, and roaming horror—plus extras like immersive environments and surprise elements.
Ticket prices vary depending on date: baseline tickets begin around $45.99, while peak nights can cost up to about $69.99. SeaWorld Annual Passholders also receive special discounts when purchasing through the Pass Member portal.
Food and drink are a big part of the scare-night experience: themed bars offer eerie cocktails, atmospheric food huts serve horror-inspired snacks and entrees, and there are “Tasting Lanyards” that provide access to multiple spirit beverages and entrées. Some of the menu highlights include specialty cocktails like “Vampire Blood,” along with loaded fries, themed flatbreads, and street-style eats.
If you’re planning to attend, expect crowds to build up closer to Halloween nights; Sunday or early-September nights tend to be lighter. To make the most of the night, it’s recommended to plan your must-do haunted house or show first, arrive early, and consider using line-skipping add-ons if available.
Howl-O-Scream 2025 is a thrilling mix of fear, food, and entertainment at a reasonable price, making it a strong contender for Orlando’s top fall fright event. Whether you’re there for the scares, the shows, or the bites, the event blends horror and hospitality in unforgettable ways.
Orlando has something big to celebrate. On September 25, H Mart opened its first Florida location, right in Pine Hills at 5201 West Colonial Drive, and at more than 100,000 square feet, it is now the largest H Mart in the world. Inside, you’ll find everything from fresh produce and live seafood to Korean pantry staples, pan-Asian sauces, ready-to-eat counters, and specialty household goods.
This weekend it seems like the entire state of Florida is in Orlando to visit the new H Mart – with lines reported up to 2 hours at certain times of the day.
While H Mart is a major new destination, Orlando’s Asian grocery scene runs much deeper. Smaller neighborhood markets have long been serving the flavors of Korea, China, Vietnam, and beyond.
Here are nine Asian supermarkets in Orlando that are not H Mart worth exploring on your next food adventure.
Address: 3191 W Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL 32808 Phone: 407-499-1115
Lotte Market on West Colonial is a haven for anyone craving authentic Korean groceries. This is probably the second closest thing to H Mart if you don’t want to wait in line. The shelves here are lined with gochujang, doenjang, and other pantry essentials, plus fresh seafood and marinated short ribs and specialty cuts that make backyard BBQ nights extra fun. We always linger in the house made kimchi and baanchan section because they carry several varieties, from classic napa to spicy radish, each with its own kick. The seafood counter is bustling too, and we like to grab a bag of frozen dumplings in the frozen aisles to keep on hand for quick meals. There is also a great food court with Korean stalls as well as surprisingly good Vietnamese and Thai inside Lotte! The staff is friendly, though it helps to go earlier in the day before the aisles get crowded.
Address: 5132 W Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL 32808 Phone: 407-557-8208
Head over to Enson Market in Chinatown Plaza, and you’ll find an enormous selection of Chinese groceries with some Southeast Asian surprises mixed in. This is where we stock up on soy sauces, wide rice noodles, dried mushrooms, and all kinds of frozen buns. The produce section is full of bok choy, bitter melon, and herbs you don’t always see elsewhere. Weekends can get hectic, but the energy makes it feel like a true Chinatown shopping trip. We usually grab a roast duck or BBQ pork from the deli counter, and it fills the whole car with that sweet, smoky aroma on the ride home. The bonus is that there are a ton of local Asian restaurants and dessert spots in the Chinatown Plaza to drop by, too—like East Garden for dim sum and Meet Fresh for desserts.
Address: Coytown Shopping Center, 2415 E Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL 32803 Phone: 407-228-9899
Closer to the Mills 50 District, iFresh Market was recently renovated a few years ago with a modern vibe that makes shopping here easy even if you’re new to Asian ingredients. They carry a little bit of everything, from Japanese ramen kits to Thai curry pastes, along with fresh seafood displayed on ice and a colorful snack aisle. They have a nice selection of unique Lay’s potato chip flavors found only in Asia—like seaweed or Sichuan spicy flavors—which are always fun to try. The store is bright, clean, and well-organized, which makes it approachable for first-time visitors. Parking is usually stress-free, though we recommend visiting in the late afternoon when it’s less busy.
Dong A Market, in the heart of the Mills 50 neighborhood just north of Colonial Drive, holds the honor of being Orlando’s oldest Asian grocery store. Stepping inside feels like stepping into a piece of local food history. They stock Vietnamese herbs, Korean side dishes, and Chinese sauces, all under one roof. It’s not as shiny as some of the newer supermarkets, but that’s part of its charm. We always notice the smell of fresh herbs when we walk past the produce section, and it reminds me of pho shops we’ve visited. The aisles are a bit tighter, so we try to shop on weekdays when it’s quieter, and cash is always a good idea to have on hand.
Address: 2100 E Colonial Dr Unit D, Orlando, FL 32803 Phone: 407-898-6858
Phuoc Loc Tho Market is a favorite among Orlando’s Vietnamese community, and it’s where we go when I want to make a comforting bowl of pho at home. They carry fresh rice noodles, bundles of Thai basil, sawtooth herb, and all the spices you need for broth. The atmosphere is lively and filled with chatter, which makes browsing here feel like joining in on a community tradition. One time I stumbled upon fresh pandan leaves and ended up trying a dessert recipe I never thought I’d attempt. Bamita, the hidden banh mi shop; Uncle Dieu’s Vietnamese food truck; and Happy Lemon tea shop can also be found here.
Mei’s on East Colonial has long been a neighborhood favorite for Chinese groceries. We come here for pantry staples like Shaoxing wine, black vinegar, and dried mushrooms, along with a steady supply of fresh bok choy and napa cabbage. The shelves are also lined with snacks and candies that feel like hidden gems, making it easy to leave with more than you planned.
Address: 12950 E Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL 32826 Phone: 407-615-8881
Eastside Asian Market is especially popular with the UCF crowd, and we understand why. We head here when we want a good variety of instant noodles, from Korean spicy ramyeon to Japanese miso ramen, along with fresh herbs like Thai basil and lemongrass. Their selection of frozen dumplings and seafood makes it a reliable stop for quick weeknight meals.
Address: 5600 W Colonial Dr Ste 306 Orlando, FL 32808 Phone: (407) 730-3936
New Golden Sparkling on West Colonial offers a mix of groceries and household items that make it feel like more than just a supermarket. We often pick up Chinese teas, dried seafood, and a range of sauces that are tough to find elsewhere. It is also one of the few places where you can stock up on both cooking essentials and kitchen tools in one trip.
Woosung on Edgewater Drive is a smaller market but packed with Korean favorites. We stop in for marinated short ribs ready for the grill, several varieties of kimchi, and tubs of gochujang and doenjang for cooking at home. The frozen dumplings and seafood are another highlight, making this a spot we return to when we are craving a taste of Korea.
H Mart’s arrival is a milestone for Orlando, but it is just the beginning of what our city has to offer. Exploring smaller markets like Lotte, Enson, iFresh, Dong A, and Phuoc Loc Tho is a way to taste the diversity and history of Orlando’s Asian community while finding unique items you may never see in a big-box store.
So next time you plan a trip to H Mart, consider making it a full food adventure. Stop by one of these neighborhood favorites, then cook up a dish that blends your market finds with your favorite Orlando memories. And if you have a hidden gem of your own, share it with us in the comments.
